Synchronizing with a Palm or Pocket PC Spreadsheet

Class Action can synchronize with spreadsheets that can import and export using the CSV (comma separated value) format. Use one of the four commands in the "Palm/Pocket PC" submenu in the File menu.

Export Student List

Exports a CSV list of student names and ID's in the following form:

Export Assignment Category

Exports an assignment category in the following form:

Import Scores from Spreadsheet (Don't Overwrite)

Imports a CSV file into a selected category, matching names or ID's and adding assignments without overwriting assignments which have already been entered.

Import Scores from Spreadsheet (Overwrite)

Imports a CSV file into a selected category, matching names or ID's and adding assignments overwriting assignments which have already been entered.

If your PDA spreadsheet doesn't synchronize with CSV file, an extra step is required. When exporting from Class Action, open your file in Excel and save it as a XLS (Excel) file. When importing from your PDA, open your file in Excel and save it as CSV file. We have found only one Palm spreadsheet that synchronizes with CSV files at this writing. We have been using MiniCalc, available from Solutions In Hand (www.solutionsinhand.com), with success in our classroom. We would be very interested in learning of other spreadsheets for Palm or Pocket PC that will synchronize directly with CSV files.
